Histories and Consistency

چکیده

⋆ When probability theory is applied to a sequence of events in time, the sample space consists of what we shall call histories. For example, if a coin is tossed twice in a row, the four histories HH, HT , TH, and TT , where HT stands for “heads on the first toss and tails on the second,” represent mutually exclusive possibilities, one and only one of which will occur in a single experimental run. The event algebra contains 16 “events,” including “heads on the first toss,” “the same both times,” and the like. • The sample space of histories for N tosses of one coin is identical to the sample space of outcomes when N coins are tossed at the same time. The same analogy works for quantum systems.

Visual-MCM: Visualising Execution Histories on Multiple Memory Consistency Models

The behaviour of Distributed Shared Memory Systems is dictated by the memory consistency model. In order to provide a better understanding on the semantics of the memory models, many researchers have proposed formalisms to deene them. Even with formal deenitions, it is still diicult to say what kind of execution histories can be produced on a particular memory model. In this paper, we propose V...

Alternatives to Histories? Employing a Local Notion of Modal Consistency in Branching Theories

Branching theories are popular frameworks for modeling objective indeterminism in the form of a future of open possibilities. In such theories, the notion of a history plays a crucial role: it is both a basic ingredient in the axiomatic definition of the framework, and it is used as a parameter of truth in semantics for languages with a future tense. Furthermore, histories complete possible cou...

Quantum Histories

There are good motivations for considering some type of quantum histories formalism. Several possible formalisms are known, defined by different definitions of event and by different selection criteria for sets of histories. These formalisms have a natural interpretation, according to which nature somehow chooses one set of histories from among those allowed, and then randomly chooses to realis...

Probability in decoherent histories

The decoherent (consistent) histories formalism has been proposed as a means of eliminating measurements as a fundamental concept in quantum mechanics. In this formalism, probabilities can be assigned to any description which satisfies a particular consistency condition. The formalism, however, admits incompatible descriptions which cannot be combined, unlike classical physics. This seems to le...

Quantum Histories and Their Implications

Classical mechanics and standard Copenhagen quantum mechanics respect subspace implications. For example, if a particle is confined in a particular region R of space, then in these theories we can deduce that it is confined in regions containing R. However, subspace implications are generally violated by versions of quantum theory that assign probabilities to histories, such as the consistent h...

[Adaptation of the Hinting Task theory of the mind test to Spanish].

INTRODUCTION Many studies have found that patients with schizophrenia have a deficit in theory of mind. Some authors associate this deficit with the presence of symptoms, while others maintain that it can also be observed in patients in the remission phase. There is no reference test to assess theory of mind in schizophrenia, although one of the most used is the Hinting Task. The aim of the pre...
